Springbok Ecosse sells direct and
distributes mohair products made with quality unblemished South African
grown and produced mohair.
BabyMo is kid mohair
usually shorn at 12 months of age, with our Shangora range, some is
12 months and the rest 6 month.
Angora Goat Kids have the finest and highest
quality mohair, it is from these that we take the name BabyMo, and
why our blankets and related products are so silky soft and huggable.
The difference between adult and kid mohair is
apparent to the first touch.
Having taken the best of raw materials
BabyMo throws and blankets are made with care.
The yarns are dyed in our own dye-house and dried in the South African
sunshine. Once the warp has been assembled into the required pattern
it is put onto a hand-loom and weaving can start. As our
products are not mass produced a throw takes half a day to weave; the weaver ensures that the sides
are woven in, a BabyMo feature which adds strength to the throw. Each throw, when woven to
the specified length is left with unwoven ends, which later will be made
into the tassels by hand, again a distinctive feature of BabyMo.Leading fashion houses
worldwide have long recognised the intrinsic value of mohair as a luxury
fibre. Today, ongoing research clearly reflects mohair's outstanding value
in non-fashion products and household textiles. Mohair's properties and
characteristics allow end-product production houses to differentiate their
products, all capitalising on the fibre's natural, unrivalled beauty,
durability, silky texture and numerous other qualities.
Being closely allied to
wool it has the warmth, drape and dye-fastness of that fibre,
however, unlike wool, it has a much smoother surface (when looked at under
a microscope), this gives a solid surface that reflects light, and, is
the reason why such true and bright colours can be obtained. Until
the appearance of synthetic fibres, Mohair was the natural choice for
upholstery fabrics and is still used in the top end of the market.
In blankets and garments it is possible with synthetics to get the visual
appearance, and with wool, the warmth. Mohair combines the two and
has a far superior hand, or feel.
v Mohair has several unique
properties that are seldom found in any other animal fibre:
Comfort - Kid Mohair does have the scratchiness
found in some other natural fibres.
Insulation - Mohair's hollow fibres do not
conduct heat, and provide superior insulation properties, even when wet.
Lustre - One of mohair's most important
qualities is its ability to take dye and to exhibit luminous, shimmering
shades of colour, that
resists fading by time or hard wear.
Lightweight - BabyMo products exceptionally
light, suitable for use with all age groups.

Durability - Mohair can be twisted and bent
without damage to the fibre; it is one of the most durable animal fibres.
Strength - Mohair is stronger than most natural
fibres, and will outlast many other materials, natural and synthetic. It
does not melt if touched by a flame or cigarette which would happen with a
synthetic product.
Easy to Wash - Mohair is
easier to wash than wool because it
doesn't felt or shrink. In normal circumstances, the
most regularly required care will be brushing the pile
with a
stiff hairbrush, this will restore the fluffiness.
Depending on how you use it, your throw will require washing
periodically. Hand-wash in tepid water with a
small amount of detergent or soap powder. Do not rub or agitate unduly,
if possible let the dirt soak out. Drain, and then rinse in clean cold
water. Rinse a second time in tepid water, and add a small amount of
fabric softener for superior results, drain and hang up to dry (because
mohair has a different structure to wool, you will find it dries quite
quickly) followed by a brisk brush to fluff it up.
